St Andrews

The Town of St Andrews is a medieval town found in the north east corner of Fife on The West Sandsthe East coast of Scotland. Because of this, St Andrews has been a port town, and has the beauty of having to lovely beaches that have golden sand.

It is famous for being the home of golf, and has the oldest golf course, called the “Old Course”.
The Town is also famous for having the Oldest Scottish University. For over 600 years it has been training and teaching some of the finest minds of the world. And has many good traditions, like the wearing of red gowns.

Like a lot of medieval towns St Andrews is steeped in history, and has lots of old buildings. Like the Ruined Cathedral and Castle, as well as many of the University building that occupy the town.

Yet St Andrews is a town of contrast, the old and the new sit side by side, and often struggle against each other. This is sometimes evidence in the architecture of the newer buildings in the town, the increase in chain stores on the high street at the cost of local shops, but most evident is the relations between Students and Towns-folk.
Although relations are usually good, some events can cause hostility to rise between these vital parts of the town.

OVER all, St Andrews, like so many small towns thought out Scotland and the UK as a whole, tries and struggles to it find its way into the future, while keeping its character and what makes it individual and not a other soulless small town.
